THERE IS NO ART WITHOUT CRITICISM
April 22–26, 2026
Opening: April 22, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
To mark the occasion of TZK’s 35th anniversary, dépendance will present the exhibition “There Is No Art Without Criticism” during Art Brussels, from April 22 to 26, 2026. In addition to new editions, such as Blondie (Handheld Version) by Allison Katz, TZK will present a special work by Tschabalala Self and some memorable editions from the archive.
The exhibition will include works by Rita Ackermann, Kai Althoff, Alexandra Bircken, Karla Black, Louise Bonnet, Mark Bradford, Ida Ekblad, Jadé Fadojutimi, Sylvie Fleury, Leiko Ikemura, Martha Jungwirth, Allison Katz, Jill Mulleady, Albert Oehlen, Adam Pendleton, Richard Prince, Christina Quarles, Tschabalala Self, Grace Weaver, and Heimo Zobernig.
The anniversary campaign “There Is No Art Without Criticism” emphasizes the central role of criticism within contemporary art. Its design takes up the typography of Lawrence Weiner, translating his striking visual language into a contemporary campaign.
As part of the exhibition, on April 24, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., TZK’s publisher Isabelle Graw will give a talk on the current situation of art criticism at the Saint-Martin Bookshop in the former Maison Martin Margiela store, under the title “Isabelle Graw on the Current Weakness and Power of Criticism.” The event link to subscribe for a free ticket will be published soon.
